Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project

Package C2 of the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRCL) Phase II expansion comprised the construction of:

  • 6.478 km of elevated viaduct
  • 5 elevated metro stations
  • 0.679 km elevated viaduct and ramp for depot entry

The corridor connects Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir, forming a critical segment of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project – Phase II. The package focused on civil construction of the elevated structure, excluding E&M and architectural finishing works.

The execution contractor for this package was Ranjit Buildcon Limited.

The objective was to expand Ahmedabad’s rapid transit network through structurally resilient, high-precision elevated infrastructure capable of supporting long-term urban mobility growth.

The Ahmedabad Metro Phase II expansion represents a major leap in Western India’s urban transportation modernization.
This corridor:

  • Strengthens connectivity between key institutional, residential, and administrative zones
  • Supports transit-oriented development in Gujarat’s capital region
  • Reduces traffic congestion and carbon emissions
  • Enhances economic productivity through reliable mass transit

At a larger scale, metro infrastructure projects like this:

  • Improve urban efficiency and investor confidence
  • Reduce logistics and commuting inefficiencies
  • Contribute to national sustainable mobility goals
  • Support India’s infrastructure-led economic expansion

Given the elevated nature of the viaduct and station structures, structural precision and durability were non-negotiable. Any compromise in load transfer systems could directly affect long-term operational safety and service continuity.

Ameenji Rubber Limited was entrusted with the:

Design, manufacturing, testing, and supply of elastomeric bridge bearings for the entire Pkg C2 elevated structure.

The scope included:

  • Multiple bearing configurations and dimensions as per approved structural drawings
  • Compliance with QA/QC protocols
  • Joint factory inspections
  • Material testing and certification
  • Supply aligned with phased construction timelines

The bearings were successfully manufactured, tested, supplied, installed, and performance-certified in accordance with approved standards and installation guidelines.
By ensuring precision load distribution, controlled movement accommodation, and structural flexibility, Ameenji’s bearings form a critical interface between the superstructure and substructure of the elevated metro system.

Why Ameenji Was Chosen

Ameenji was selected based on:

  • Proven track record in metro and elevated infrastructure projects
  • Strong in-house design engineering capable of understanding complex load parameters
  • Ability to manufacture bearings to exact dimensional tolerances
  • Established QA/QC systems and documentation discipline
  • Consistent adherence to project timelines

Metro projects demand zero-defect performance due to continuous operational loads and high public safety standards. Ameenji’s technical reliability and execution discipline made it a dependable partner for this critical package.

Elevated Viaduct System
Ensures uninterrupted urban mobility by eliminating ground-level traffic interference.

Multi-Station Integration
Five elevated stations designed to handle high commuter volumes efficiently.

Depot Entry Ramp
Facilitates seamless operational logistics and train management.

Elastomeric Bearing System

  • Absorbs vertical and horizontal loads
  • Accommodates thermal expansion and structural movement
  • Enhances seismic resilience
  • Extends structural lifespan
  • Minimizes long-term maintenance requirements

Together, these elements ensure durability, safety, and operational continuity of the metro corridor.

Completed (2021–2023)

All elastomeric bearings were:

  • Manufactured as per approved drawings
  • Jointly inspected
  • Tested for material compliance
  • Supplied and installed
  • Performance certified

The elevated viaduct and station structures under Package C2 are now positioned to serve as a critical component of Ahmedabad’s expanding metro network.
